Stupor Hero

Recently eaten: lasagna
Recent annoyance: indirect directions

Homer: All you can eat. Ha!
Lionel Hutz: Mr. Simpson, this is the most blatant case of fraudulent advertising since my suit against the film, "The Never-Ending Story''.

Conspicuous consumption is a timehonored tradition. Practiced by the Romans, and all civilizations in decline, this type of public hedonism has once again come into fashion. These are new heroes, the wariiors who slog through nuckets of greasy fast food for our amusement. Everytime they step into the Circus Maximus of competitive eating, they become gladiators of the stomach, battling almost to the death (check out these safety standards for competitive eating).

To those who are about to binge, I salute you. Some profiles of the new American hero.

And, for the amateurs, there is hope.
